From “The Red Book Of Lithuania” set comes this truly beautiful se-tenant stamp release. The Black-throated Diver and Water Chestnut stamps are due out Saturday September 10, 2005.

The Black-throated Diver is a member of the diver family. Since it is waterfowl, you can find their nests near the water, located mainly on small islands between the reeds. The Black-throated Diver likes to eat fishes and surprisingly water insects as well. It can be seen in Lithuania during migration, as it prepares for mating and egg laying In April-May.

The portrayal of the Water Chestnut plant is interesting, as it is supposed to be extinct in Lithuania. This plant also goes by the name “Water Nut”. It grows in well-heating, not limy, silty lakes. The blooms of the Water Chestnut can be seen in June-July. It propagates itself by nut-shaped stones, which remain fertile for an unbelievable 50 years in silt.
