Stamps are becoming a central point in the long-running dispute between China and Taiwan. Until now, Taiwan’s postal service has always been called “Chunghwa Post”, meaning Chinese Post. Now, in a further step toward the independance that Taiwan has claimed since 1949, Taiwan will rename it’s postal service Taiwan Post. Included in this move is the inclusion of Taiwan as the country name on the stamps themselves. We’re sure to hear much saber-rattling between the two countries over this, so keep your ears to the ground! Oh, the original source of this information is an article over on the CBC page: http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2007/02/08/taiwan-spanish.html
