These stamps were issued March 1 2006 in New York, NY 10199. Formats for this issue were Single .39-cent and .63-cent special stamps in the same pane of 40, .39-cent stamp is also in a pane of 20 (CB).

This would be an appropriate time for a rousing chorus of “Here Comes The Bride”. The Dove stamps dubbed “Our Wedding Stamps” carries a design of white dove on calligraphy branch and were created by Berkley, CA resident Michael Osborne. This design is intended for wedding invitations and RSVPs. Osborne’s design is based on elegant calligraphic designs that were used to embellish correspondence during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Most people can relate to the symbol of the dove as that of peace. It also signifies love (note the heart at the top of each stamp) and fidelity. The .39-cent stamp is white on a lavender background, while the .63-cent stamp (two-ounce denomination) is a mirror or reverse image with a green background.

The United States first featured a Dove as its main stamp design in 1967 with Scott #1326. That stamp, “Search For Peace”, was the theme of an essay contest for young men and women sponsored by the Lions International on its 50th anniversary.

Some additional information on the 1967 Dove stamp from “Postage Stamps of the United States”, United States Government Printing Office, Washington, 1970.

The 5-cent Search for Peace commemorative stamp was issued July 5, 1967, at Chicago, Illinois, in conjunction with the Lions International Convention.

As a part of its 50th anniversary activities, Lions sponsored a “Search for Peace” essay contest, and the commemorative stamp reflects the theme of this program. Young people, 14 to 22, from the more than 130 countries and geographical areas served by the Lions, were invited to submit workable plans for world peace.

Bradbury Thompson of Riverside, Connecticut, designed the stamp, which measures 0.84 by 1.44 inches. It was printed in red, blue, and black on granite paper. The vignette is based on the ancient Greek symbol for peace, the dove and laurel branch, from Jacob Bryant’s “Analysis of Ancient Mythology”. It was issued in panes of 50.

    Ken,

Awesome contribution! It is truely something to think of 14 - 2 year olds from 130 different countries working towards the same cause.

Thank you for the comment and Happy Stamping!
