Stamp collecting is full of intriguing stories and this one is no different. Today’s Edmonton Journal carries a story about the Postmaster General of New Brunswick who was daring enough to put his own face on a stamp. At that time, only the King and Queen were considered important enough to be pictured on stamps and currency. Of course, these stamps never made it to the general public, but a set of proofs still exist. They were part of the Sir Gawain Baillie collection, and are due to be auctioned at Sotheby’s soon. If you are interested in Canadian stamps at all, you must have a look at this catalogue, as this will be one of the most incredible collections you will ever lay eyes on.
