Royal Mail has issued a set of stamps commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Victoria Cross. These six stamps feature different servicemen who have been awarded the medal. Values of the stamps are two First Class stamps, two 64p stamps and two 72p stamps. The Victoria Cross is the highest recognition for valour that can be awarded to members of the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces.

86 year old Flight Lieutenant John Cruickshank is the last surviving VC holder for air action in the Second World War and unveiled the stamps at the city’s Gordon Highlanders Museum. Featured with Cruickshank on the stamps are: Jack Cornwall who is the youngest person to receive the medal at the age of 16, Captain Noel Chavasse who is one of only three men ever to be awarded two crosses for his First World War heroism, Agansing Rai who was a Gurkha soldier, Charles Lucas who was an Irish sailor that received his medal for action in the Crimean War, First World War pilot Albert Ball, and Charles Upham who is a two-time cross recipient.
