70-year old “Quack”

A Donald Duck celebration starts today (08/09/05), with the release of a special stamp pack from Australia Post. It is hard to believe, but Donald is a big 70-years old today!

For Disney collectors, this pack is truly something special. On the cover is an embossed image of Donald from his early days. Inside is an assortment of posters from some of the cartoons Donald Duck was featured in, as well as ten (10) .50-cent stamps with images of the Disney Duck.

Donald Duck made his debut on June 9, 1934, in “The Little Wise Hen”. Donald’s temper was a quick hit with audiences and in the 1940’s Donald Duck films surpassed that of Mickey Mouse. In total, there were 128 Donald Duck films. That is not even counting films where Donald appeared in with others characters, like Mickey Mouse or Goofy. The newspapers started printing Donald Duck cartoons in 1938.
