The UK issued a new set of stamps yesterday honoring the queen’s 60th Wedding Anniversary. The stamps show scenes from the wedding of Queen Elizabeth and The Duke of Edinburgh in 1947. There are 6 stamps total, plus a “miniature sheet”, as well as various presentation packs and a souvenir coin.
Queen Elizabeth is apparently the first reigning sovereign of the UK to reach the 60th Anniversary milestone. The ceremony was a sensation back in 1947, with more than 2000 people in attendance and making headlines around the world. Winston Churchill described the wedding as “A flash of color on the hard road we travel.”
