Disney Stamps in Australia
Not to be outdone by the blatant commercialism that has crept into the USPS stamp program, Australia recently issued its own new Disney stamps. The issue is a new Mickey and Friends souvenir sheet consisting of a block of 10 stamps all showing the same balloon design. Each of the stamps is attached to a perforated label depicting a different Disney cartoon character or group of characters. The entire block is surrounded by selvedge depicting all the major Mickey Mouse characters in a park scene. I must say that everything about this issue just screams “Made for collectors only”, which of course leads me to object to their very existence. Of course, this is true of every Disney issue every made. Still, they are attractive, and some might actually see some kind of postal usage, though probably not many. Such is the world of new commemorative issues today, I suppose.
