In 2001, New Zealand embarked on a “personal” approach to postage. This month, they have released the 2005 set of Personalised Stamps. According to New Zealand Post, click here for more information, the campaign has been a success with both locals and tourists alike.
Unlike the United States Personalised program, which allows a person to affix their own picture, New Zealand has maintained control of images. Instead of a person being able to place, say Aunt Martha’s face on a stamp, New Zealand has provide both event-specific and broad-range images. From wedding rings to wrapped presents.
These images are both refreshing and useful for a variety of events. It is easy to see why people have enjoyed them so much.Yet it should be noted that from a philatelic standpoint the integrity of stamp collecting is preserved and orderly. For those who are opposed to the United States helter-skelter Photostamps, this would be a fantastic solution.
