Mark your calendars, for this is the special day (August 22, 2006) of the Hong Kong and Austria joint issue. Even more special are the stamps themselves. Each stamp is crystal-clad, a first in the world of philately. According to HongKong Postmaster General Tam Wing-pong, the stamps carry a fireworks theme and feature Victoria Harbour and the Vienna Prater.
This issue is the world’s first fusion of crystal fabric with stamps and causes a glittering effect. Combined with the fireworks show, this gives a spectacular appearance to the stamp design. There are a variety of formats which these stamps can be purchased. Mint sets of two, Sheets, Sheetlets (Souvenir Sheets), Presentation Pak, Souvenir Pak, First Day Cover, as well as Dated Stamp versions.
