In a story released through the Associated Press yesterday, it was announced that the state of Kentucky legislature is looking at implementing an illegal drug tax, complete with tax stamps from the state Department of Revenue. The purpose of course, is to allow the seizure of property other than illegal drugs during a bust if said taxes are not paid. Aside from obvious questions of constitutionality with respect to “double-jeopardy”, this should make for some nice new revenue stamps for collectors out there. That is, provided the state will sell them to stamp collectors. Tennessee has a similar law, but will only sell the stamps to persons who present themselves in person to the State Board of Revenue in Nashville!! Such persons would be either an extremely dedicated stamp collector, or a really stupid drug dealer. The only other state that I’m aware of with such stamps is Kansas, one of which is depicted below.
