Pos Malaysia is busy these days, as they prepare for a new stamp release and Stamp Week too. This Friday, December 2nd, is the kick off for both events.

Special stamps and first day covers featuring the Malaysian Batik will be available. The Batik designs are produced by 2003 and 2004 winners of the prestigious Piala Seri Endon Batik Design Competitions.

Individual Stamps, a Stamp Sheet, First Day Cover, a Presentation Pack, a Miniature Sheet, and a Folder make up the number of ways you can collect this issue. Three denominations of 30 sen, 50 sen and RM1 are used and the miniature sheet is priced at RM2 each.

The Stamp Week will feature seven different design cancellations. One design for each day of Stamp Week. These will only be available at the Stamp Week venue. Other activities will be happening as well, including lucky draws, stamps exhibition and Standing Order Deposit Account (SODA) membership promotion.

And what is Batik you say? It is a tradition of textile printing covering almost 100 years. While there had been experimentation with this textile printing without wax, the real batik production got running around 1930. At that time the process of stamping wax directly onto the fabric hit it’s true stride in production.
