On Thursday, February 23, Royal Mail released a set of six stamps honoring Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Brunel was one of the great British engineers of the 19th century (1806-1859), having built twenty-five railways lines, over a hundred bridges (five of those suspension), eight pier and dock systems, three ships and a pre-fabricated army field hospital.

Featured in this stamp set are: the Royal Albert Bridge which is recognized as one of Brunel’s most outstanding works, the 2 mile long Box Tunnel and Paddington Station, the London Terminal of Brunel’s Great Western Railway line, the PSS Great Eastern which was a ship designed by Brunel and at the time the largest in history, and the Clifton Suspension Bridge which was Brunel’s first commission at age 24.

The set of six are released in Hat-trick design, in landscape format with phosphorous bars. These are available through Royal mail in sheets of 24 and 48.
