Yesterday, September 27 2006, Slovensko release two stamps in joint issue with Indonesia. These stamps feature two types of puppet theatre characters, Semar and Gasparko. Both stamps are also available in FDC and mini sheet format.

The character Semar is found in the Wayang Golek traditional theatre. It expresses the fight between good and evil. The meaning of the name Semara is meant to prompt us to look for or carry out good things.

Gašparko (Silly Billy) is the most typical character of traditional puppet theatre. In Slovakia Gašparko is depicted as a bandit or redresser of injustice may be the result of the long-term oppression of the Slovak nation where consolation was found only in dreams about heroism.
