Turkey has released a stamp commemorating the Turkish Atomic Energy Agency’s 50th anniversary. Issued November 22, 2006, this stamp honors Turkeys operation of nuclear research reactors for almost 50 years. The first of these reactors was built in 1962.

Nuclear power has now become the heavy favorite for Turkey, as they consider that to be both an economical solution and beneficial for the environment. This may be a viable solution for the country that does not have much to speak of in the way of oil or gas resources. The expected nuclear energy plan is expected to meet about 6 percent of Turkeys energy needs by 2015.
