For long time readers of this blog, you’ll know that I like to point out articles I find in the mainstream press about stamps, stamp collecting, postal history, or anything philatelic. Today, an article appears on Courant.com, the website of the Hartford Courant, the local newspaper for Hartford, Connecticut. The article, by Dave Kent, highlights one of the more recent United Nations issues honoring the World Heritage sites of South America. It’s a very short piece, but every little bit helps when trying to expose stamp collecting to a wider audience. The choice of subject is excellent, as the stamps are certain to appeal to a broad range of collectors, particular topical collectors. The stamps in question are really quite attractive, featuring such subjects as Easter Island, the Galapagos Islands, and Macchu Picchu. Just looking at them makes you want to become a globetrotter, so you can see all these sites for yourself, which of course, is the point of the issue in the first place. You can read the article in question here, and you can view all the stamps for yourself here.
