United States Releases New Official stamp
Today, March 8, 2006, the United States issues it’s first denominated Official Mail stamp since the rate increase. Washington D.C. 20066 is the first day city. Format will be a Single .39-cent official mail, WA coil of 100.
An Act of Congress authorized the United States first Official stamps on March 3, 1873. Stamps for each government department were issued and we saw a variety of faces on these designs from Franklin to Seward and some designs with no person featured at all.
The modern day Official Mail stamp come into being with a design from Bradbury Thompson. The date was January 12, 1985 with Scott# O127. As with this new issue, all Official Mail stamps have been tagged from #O127 forward. 15-million of these .39-cent stamps will be printed by Sennett Security Products.
