The United States was busy this week with three days of stamp issues. Starting this off was the Southern Florida Wetlands Souvenir Sheet, which is part eight of the Nature of America Series. It was issued on October 4th. Ten commermorative stamps are on this sheet and descriptions of the wetland and a numbered key to the artwork on the back.

The ten stamps featured are of the American Alligator, American Crocodile, Bald Eagle and Cowhorn Orchard, Cape Sable Seaside Sparrow, Everglades Mink, Florida Panther, Roseate Spoonbills, Snail Kite, White Ibis, and the Wood Stork.

The following two days were four Holiday Stamps. Snowflakes were issued October 5th, in formats of four .39-cent stamps in panes of 20, double-sided pane of 20, and vending booklet of 20.

These are actual photographs of snowflakes and was achieved by quickly transferring the snowflakes from cardboard to a glass slide using a paintbrush. At this point the photo was taken inside a temperature-regulated enclosure using a digital camera attached to a high-resolution microscope.
