Today, August 4th 2006, the American Clock stamp returns. If this stamp looks familiar, that is because we first saw this design released in 2003 as part of the American Design Series. The first of this series was the 5-cent American Toleware stamp. The American Clock stamp release in 2003 was the second of the American Design Series. All total, the American Design Series includes the American Toleware, American Clock, Tiffany Lamp, Chippendale Chair, Navajo Necklace, and Silver Coffeepot.
An interesting side note for Transportation series collectors is that the American Design series was the replacement for the Transportation Series. Denominations of the American Design series vary from .01-cents through .10-cents.

The American Clock stamp represents the Banjo clock, first made in 1805 by Simon Willard in Massachusetts. Willard’s original design of the clock was for use in the home. Later it was found in schools and workplaces throughout the country.
