Today, February 22, the United States issue it’s stamps for the Scenic American Landscape Series. In all there will be three stamps issued to cover a variety of international postage rates. All three will have first day release cities of Washington, D.C. and Nationwide.
Bryce Canyon is a .63-cent single stamp, in a pane of twenty, which covers the letter rate for Mexico and Canada
This spectacular stamp of Bryce Canyon, Utah is part of the Scenic American Landscapes series. It features a photograph of the Bryce Canyon Bryce Amphitheater by Tom Till of Moab, Utah. The spires of rock shown are a result of erosion that has happened through the centuries. Another name for the spires is “hoodoos”, which means “goblin”. They can range in size from 5 to 150 feet high.
Bryce Canyon became a national monument in 1923, was called Utah National Park in 1924, and named Bryce Canyon in 1928. The name Bryce Canyon came from its founder Mormon Pioneer Ebenezer Bryce. Great Smoky Mountains is a .75-cent single stamp, in a pane of twenty, international rate for countries other than Mexico or Canada.
Located in North Carolina and Tennessee, the Great Smoky Mountains are the focal point of folklore and legend. This stamp features a photograph taken at sunset from Clingmans Dome, by David Muench of Santa Barbara, Calif. This view includes parts of both North Carolina and Tennessee.
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park was established by Congress in 1934 and later dedicated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1940. Made up of some 800 square miles, a diverse plant and wildlife ecosystem, and even structures from the early settlers. The Great Smoky Mountains are seen some 10 million visitors. Yosemite National Park is a .84-cent single stamp, in a pane of twenty, international rate.
Out of the three Scenic American Landscape Series this month, I found this one absolutely stellar! This stamp features a photograph of the Gates of the Valley in Yosemite National Park, taken by Galen Rowell of Emeryville. Nearly four million people visit Calif. Yosemite National Park in California each year.
The Park was established in 1890 and consists of 747,956 acres. 95 percent of the park has been designated wilderness. Nearly four million people year enjoy the parks incredible geographical features, which are vast and varied. Inside the park are giant groves of sequoias, large meadows, lakes, glaciers, waterfalls, and the parks world-renowned granite cliffs. You can find out more at their website .
