Yesterday, August 23 2006, was the release date for Canada’s Wine and Cheese Stamps. The purpose of these stamps is to pay tribute to these growing industries. Four domestic rate stamps were unveiled in the heart of Ontario’s wine industry, Niagara-on-the-Lake. Canada is considered to be one of the largest cheese producing nations in the world. There are approximately 200 manufacturers who produce ore than 300 varieties of cheese in Canada.

As for wine, Canadian wines have won awards at important international wine festivals for nearly a decade. The latest statistics for Canadian wine show that 190 wineries produced shipments worth almost 800 million dollars and employed more than 3,000 people across Canada.
