Bisects are another tricky part of our wonderful hobby of stamp collecting. When you happen across them, more often than not they are forgeries of some kind. Legitimate uses of bisects are few and far between in all countries, and most have never had legitimate uses, including the United States. Gibbon’s Stamp Monthly has an article online this week about just this subject in Malaysia. Apparenlty, there has only been one legitimate use of a bisect in Malaysia, and now even that is being called into question. You can read the article here.

From AskPhil.org: Bisect: stamp cut in half which has been used to pay the postage at half the face value of the original stamp; the bisect should becollected on the original cover with the postmark or cancellation covering the cut.
