Czeslaw Slania is dead

Czeslaw Slania, master engraver and designer of more than 1000 stamps worldwide, died on March 17, 2005. Slania was perhaps the greatest engraver of stamps the world has ever known, and was tremendously prolific during his lifetime, having designed stamps for 32 countries including the USA.     This is truely a great loss to the stamp world! My love of stamps came from detailed engravings, such as his. A master indeed! I wish more people would study under such an artist.

    Thank you for sharing the site. I found it very enjoyable and entertaining. It is amusing that his detail was so great, he could include images of himself and names of family members.

    In a world of lithographs and photocopied images, I will miss the great works of Slania.

    Interesting, now Prince Ranier of Monaco, the husband of Grace Kelly, has died.
