Federal Duck Mini-Sheet in Sam Houston auction
Sam Houston Duck Company’s October 26 auction will include a Scott RW72b, the famed Federal Duck mini-sheet signed by the artist who designed the stamp. This sheet was issued without prior notification to the philatelic world in a limited quantity of 1000. Bob Dumaine, the owner of Sam Houston, was especially quick on the draw and was able to purchase the hog share of these sheets before anyone else even realized they existed, creating a minor uproar in the community. Dumaine defended himself against accusations of profiteering in Linn’s Stamp News. Now, just a couple of months later, Sam Houston is offering this sheet (bought at a small amount over face value) for auction, with an estimate of $3000.00! If you don’t want to chance losing the auction, Sam Houston is selling the sheets on it’s website for the low, low price of $2250.00. If that isn’t profiteering, I don’t know what is.
