It was released today that the Indian Postal Department has decided to stop gumming ordinary postage stamps, as many people are finding it difficult to use them. Reported was much wastage for the average user, as climate conditions would cause sheets of stamps to adhere to themselves. This was not only a waste for the user, but turned out to be a savings for the Postal Department.

By not gumming stamps, the Indian Postal Department can save much money on production costs. Other money saving efforts include reducing the size of special commemorative stamps. You can read more about it in this article from the Central Chronicle.
