Inverted Jenny on Absentee Ballot Officially A Fake

Inverted JennyToday the inverted Jenny stamp that was sent in on an absentee ballot in Florida was officially declared a fake by officials from the PSE and APS. Mercer Bristow from the American Philatelic Expertising Service (APES), the expertising arm of the APS, examined the stamp along with Randy Shoemaker of Professional Stamp Experts, a commercial stamp expertising firm. Both gentlemen agreed that the printing method used to produce the stamp in question as well as the perforations were dead giveaways that the stamp was not genuine. Update on December 5, more articles in various newspapers have revealed more information about this story, including the fact that the stamp was taped onto the envelope rather than affixed with the gum of the stamp. Here is on particularly good article from the Contra Costa Times.
