Mint US 562c found
In today’s mcall.com, there is a story about the finding of the world’s only known copy of US Scott 562c in mint condition. This is the yellow 10c James Monroe stamp from the 1922 definitive series known as the “Fourth Bureau” issue, perforated 11 on 3 sides and perf 10 on top or bottom. This stamp is exceedingly rare, with only a few copies know in used condition and this recent find being the only known copy in mint condition. The stamp and the story of its finding also appeared in this week’s edition of Linn’s Stamp News.
The story in Mcalls is great, because it is told in very plain language that anybody (even non-philatelists) can understand and highlights the possibility that new finds can be made out there. This sort of article definitely increases the appeal of stamp collecting to the uninitiated. By virtue of being in the mainstream press, the message also gets to a much wider audience than a technical publication like Linn’s. Kudos to the author, Kirk Beldon Jackson.
