PRC Recommends 2-cent Rate Hike

The Postal Regulatory Commission recommended a 2-cent hike in first class postal rates today. This would raise the price of a first-class stamp to 41 cents as opposed to the current 39 cents. Rumors had been flying around that the hike would actually be 3 cents, but apparently the PRC decided that was a bit too much after last years rate hike. The PRC also recommended that the USPS issue a “forever” stamp that would be valid for all first-class rates, regardless of when it was bought. I think this is a great idea, but I hope it doesn’t pave the way for USPS to keep raising rates every single year like Canada does. For more details on the recommendations of the PRC, you can read this story.
