As it turns out, the designer of this year’s US Winter Olympics stamp, John Mattos, is a resident of the Chinatown district in San Francisco. I live in the SF Bay Area, so this story is of special interest to me. In yesterday’s San Franciso Chronicle, there was a story about Mr. Mattos and his stamp design, written by John Crumpacker. Some of Mattos’ other designs include the logo of the 2003 Kentucky Derby and the cover of Time magazine’s special Olympic Games issue in 2000. You can read the full text of the article at this link.
