In last week’s Rarities sale, the finest know example of Scott C3a (The inverted Jenny) sold for an astounding $525,000 at Siegel Auctions. This price respresents ( in the words of Scott Trepel, president of Siegel Auctions) “1)the highest price ever paid for a single C3a, 2)the highest price ever paid for a 20th century U.S. stamp and 3)the highest price ever paid for a single unused U.S. stamp.” Of course, this is another good excuse for posting a picture of one of the most famous stamps in the world, so here it is:
