Yesterday, July 31, the USPS issued a set of four stamps depicting Native American art on blankets created in the Rio Grande area of New Mexico. The four Rio Grande Blankets self-adhesive stamps feature photographs of blankets from the collections of the Museum of International Folk Art, and the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture/Laboratory of Anthropology, both in Santa Fe, and the Taylor Museum, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center in Colorado Springs, CO. These stamps are fifth in the American Treasures Series. It is rumored that my good friend John DeBoo had a hand in getting the first day ceremony moved to Santa Fe, NM, as it was originally scheduled to be held somewhere totally unrelated to Native Americans or the Rio Grande.
